ICC World Cup 2011 was jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The finalist of World Cup were Sri Lanka and India. Being the both subcontinental side playing in subcontinental pitch, the match was expected to the exciting and it was one the exciting of cricket world cup finals.
With the help of Mahela Jayawardane's impressive 103 runs, Sri Lank set a challenging target of 275 runs. India playing on home ground lost the early wicket of Sachin and Sehwag but, with the help of 97 runs of Gautam Ghambir and not out 91 runs of Ms Dhoni, India managed to beat Sri Lanka to hold the ICC CricketWorld Cup 2011. Although India was declared the test playing nation well before 1983 in 1932, India was never considered the as good team in cricket. But, the view point of Indian cricket team was totally changed after the Cricket World Cup win against West Indies which was considered the best team at that time.
In 1983, ODI match was of 60 overs. India batted first and managed to score just 183 runs with the help of Srikkanth's 38 runs. The performance of Indian cricket was questioned after the league stage defeat in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. India hadn't won any ICC offical trophy for 24 years at that senario. Indian Cricket had alot to prove and T20 World Cup give the Indian cricket a new start to the cricketing journey.
